Thomas Miller announces three year partnership with international medical charity Mercy Ships.
Thomas Miller, an international provider of market leading insurance services has launched their CSR programme ‘Be The Difference’ by announcing a three year partnership with international medical charity Mercy Ships.
The global partnership will see Thomas Miller employees engage with Mercy Ships in a multitude of ways, as they seek to raise funds for the charity’s incredible work in providing free surgery and medical care to people in West Africa.
Mercy Ships operates the largest charity-run hospital ship in the world, delivering free, safe medical care to some of the world’s least-developed countries, where people cannot access the care they urgently need. This “floating hospital” is staffed almost entirely by volunteers, who give their expertise for free to help treat dental and eye problems, cleft lips and palates, tumours, club feet, childbirth injuries, burns and a variety of other conditions.
Since 1978, Mercy Ships has visited more than 55 developing nations, providing services worth more than £1 billion that have directly helped more than 2.5 million people.
Thomas Miller has also linked up with Thirdbridge, a social enterprise dedicated to building and strengthening partnerships between the private and third sector. Thirdbridge provides a platform that enables businesses to connect, form partnerships with and manage their charitable programmes. Thomas Miller recognises the importance of allowing employees time off to undertake community activities and consequently allow staff three ‘volunteering’ days paid leave per year to undertake such activities.
Hugo Wynn Williams, Chairman, Thomas Miller says: “‘Be The Difference’ is an innovative approach to Corporate Social Responsibility, which intends to engage our employees in the future direction of our business. At the same time, it provides the opportunity for us to play our part in the community.
“This is much more than charitable giving although that is an important element. It goes to the heart of how we treat people, our participation in the communities where we work and our impact on the environment around us. It is an essential part of Thomas Miller’s identity. The partnership with Mercy Ships will enable us to focus our charitable activity and positively support their excellent work in providing surgery and medical care to people in West Africa.”
Charlene Cree, Corporate Partnership Manager at Mercy Ships UK, said: “Thomas Miller has shown a real passion for our work, and its support will enable Mercy Ships to reach some of the most vulnerable people in the world with the vital healthcare they urgently need. We are really excited to develop a captivating, energising partnership with this fantastic organisation.”
