Available round the world, round the clock

Thomas Miller's Clubs have contracts with the owners / managers of more than 50% of the world’s tonnage

Due to the wide range of operations and services insured by our businesses, we have unparalleled understanding of the problems faced by the transport industry. Daily we handle major transport casualties as well as large volumes of smaller claims.

Solving your problems

Our aim is to find satisfactory solutions to your claims by negotiating settlements with claimants and their lawyers that satisfy both you and the Club. Some claims executives have worked in the transport industry while many are legally qualified. In addition, many people have worked for us for a long time and have built up a deep knowledge of how to handle claims quickly and efficiently.

Available round the world, round the clock

With our main regional offices in London, New Jersey and Hong Kong, there is always someone able to deal with emergencies. These are supported by our other offices in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the Isle of Man, Bermuda, San Francisco, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore and Sydney. These are backed up by a network of claims handling specialists known as "correspondents", providing you with on-the-spot local support.  Many of these correspondents have worked with us for many years and share our deep understanding of the transport industry.

Resolving litigation

Transport has always been a source of litigation and indeed much of English commercial law was founded on cases funded by P&I and Defence Clubs. So one of our core strengths is the management of litigation. We are increasingly working closely with a body of Preferred Legal Partners (currently in the UK and the US) who work to Guidelines established by us for the effective management of members' cases. We have also negotiated special rates with these Partners and have introduced software for the management of accurate e-billing by law firms.

Helping you run a better operation

All our transport businesses have loss prevention initiatives focused on preventing claims and helping you run high quality safe operations. We look for trends in the claims we handle and work with industry partners to produce information and programmes to minimise losses. Some of this can be found in the Knowledgebase on this website.

Participation in industry initiatives

Many Thomas Miller executives are members of industry committees which look at legal affairs (especially standard trading documentation) as well as loss prevention, safety and standards.

Please help us raise the £2m (US$3m) that will make this happen.
